Doctors Hospital of Manteca Opens New Rapid Care Area to Speed Treatment and Discharge of Emergent Patients
Jan 30, 2017MANTECA, Calif. – Jan. 20, 2017 – The new Rapid Care area that opened Wednesday in Doctors Hospital of Manteca’s Emergency Department (ED) is designed to shorten the time it takes for lower-acuity patients to be evaluated, treated and released.
The new three-bed Rapid Care area will allow clinicians at the hospital, which is experiencing a significant increase in ED patient traffic, to see more emergent patients per hour. An admitting specialist and a nurse in the ED waiting room are available to make sure patients are directed promptly to the appropriate level of care.
“We are currently receiving anywhere from 12 to 15 ambulances a day in our Emergency Department – up from 8 to 10 during the same time period last year,” said Brian Beenes, Emergency Services Director at Doctors Hospital of Manteca. “The new Rapid Care area not only provides more beds overall for emergent patients, it will also allow us to triage lower-acuity patients more effectively and potentially get them in and out of the hospital faster.”
The hospital has also hired additional staff to help during peak hours and alleviate some of the traffic in the ED.
In November, Doctors Hospital of Manteca was awarded Advanced Certification as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. “The addition of the Rapid Care area in our ED will also strengthen our ability to provide high-quality, advanced stroke care for our patients,” Beenes said.
