Central Valley Doctors Health System Spotlights Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Central Valley Doctors Health System is committed to the fight against breast cancer. Statistics indicate that one out of every eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her lifetime. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 98 percent. Mammograms are the most effective form of early detection.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are donating to Susan G. Komen. We are also providing breast health support and resources to our community with four weeks of health tips. Central Valley Doctors Health System is putting its breast health services in the spotlight in honor of the October observance. Although, it’s important to keep breast health top of mind year-round.

Shining Pink for October:

Patients and residents visiting the Emanuel Cancer Center or driving by during the evening hours will notice something special. The entire building, located at 880 E Tuolumne Road in Turlock, is shining pink for the month of October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The hope is that this will serve as a reminder for women to schedule their routine mammogram and put their health first.

Extended Hours:

Annual mammograms are an important part of a woman’s wellness routine, generally beginning at age 40. Sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day for those with busy schedules. We understand it may be difficult for working moms and busy women to get in for their screenings during normal business hours. But the last thing that should be neglected is their health. These extended hours allow women to come in after hours or on the weekend, when it may be more convenient.

The Ruby E. Bergman Women’s Diagnostic Center at the Emanuel Cancer Center is staying open late on three Mondays until 7 p.m. on October 9th, October 16th and October 23rd. In addition, the Center will be open two Saturdays on October 14th and October 28th from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please call (833) 237-2968 to schedule a mammogram in Turlock.

The Women’s Imaging Center at Doctors Hospital of Manteca is staying open late on October 30th until 7 p.m. and two Saturdays on October 14th and October 28th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you would like to schedule a mammogram in Manteca, please call (833) 217-3930.

3D Mammography:

The Ruby E. Bergman Women’s Diagnostic Center at the Emanuel Cancer Center and the Women’s Imaging Center at Doctors Hospital of Manteca are proud to offer 3D mammography (breast tomosynthesis) for breast cancer screening. Breast cancer screening with tomosynthesis when combined with a conventional 2D mammography has a 40 percent higher invasive cancer detection rate than conventional 2D mammography alone.

3D mammography offers exceptionally sharp breast images, and an advanced design providing more patient comfort. The tomosynthesis platform is designed to deliver superior screening and diagnostic performance for all breast types. It produces a three-dimensional view of the breast tissue that helps radiologists identify and characterize individual breast structures without the confusion of overlapping tissue.

Breast tomosynthesis has the potential to benefit all screening and diagnostic mammography patients and is especially valuable for women receiving a baseline screening, those who have dense breast tissue and/or women with a personal history of breast cancer.

Personalized Care:

The Ruby E. Bergman Women’s Diagnostic Center at the Emanuel Cancer Center and the Women’s Imaging Center at Doctors Hospital of Manteca both offer personalized patient care with a dedicated breast health coordinator at each facility. The coordinators guide patients through the diagnostic evaluation period, up to and through a diagnosis of cancer by providing emotional support, education and resources.

Comprehensive screening and diagnostic services are available at both facilities, providing a continuum of services under one roof, providing ease and accessibility to patients. The goal is to provide prompt and accurate answers from when a lump is detected to when a diagnosis is provided, helping alleviate stress and anxiety for the patient.

Free Wig Bank and Resource Room:

The American Cancer Society provides a complimentary wig to any woman experiencing cancer and hair loss. The Emanuel Cancer Center has a wig bank on-site, which also provides complimentary hats, scarves and lap blankets. The resource library has materials available on nearly every kind of cancer as well as materials relating to nutrition, coping with cancer, caregiver support, family concerns, inspiration and more. The Central Valley Doctors Health System is a proud sponsor of the upcoming Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Modesto on Sunday, October 22nd. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m. at the 10^th Street Plaza Place in downtown Modesto.
